This month: Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it attracts water and helps hold it where it is applied. That is the job it does in a cosmetic: it helps skin and lips feel hydrated and look smoother and plumper.

On a label you will usually see sodium hyaluronate, the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It is the form most formulas use.

In the Luma line it appears in two products: Luma Lips, where it works alongside vitamin E to help dry lips feel soft, and Luma Lift, where it helps the skin around the eyes hold moisture so it looks smoother.
